Royal Rolls: Queen’s Rolls-Royce up for auction

Rolls-Royce is a name that has traditionally been synonymous with the ultimate in luxury motoring. Apparently, it’s not just Sheikhs from the middle-east that are of this opinion. Turns out Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, and her daughter (and current British monarch) Queen Elizabeth II seemed to think so too. A ’63 Rolls-Royce Phantom V is up for auction, from Barons Auctioneers in England.

According to the official listing, “The chassis and V8 engine of The Rolls-Royce Phantom V, were very similar to those used on the Silver Cloud II but the gain in weight forced the increase in tyre size. With a 16 metre turning circle, the Phantom V could only be used by people with the priority to almost anywhere. The vendor states that the example offered here is the first B Series Phantom V and is believed to be the 1963 Motor Show Car for Rolls-Royce, which was subsequently taken into Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother’s stable of cars.”

The V8 mentioned is in fact a 6.2-litre specimen mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox. The car has been listed at a “Guide Price” of £60,000 to £100,000, which would equate to Rs 56 lakh to Rs 93 lakh approximately. So if you’ve got about a crore of rupees to spare, and want to own a Rolls that was probably driven around by The Queens of England, present and past, then get your bidding game on, because the auction takes place at Baron’s Classic Collector and Sports Car Auction on the 21st of April.
