The production version of the next-generation NSX supercar, took the stage with a growl from its twin-turbocharged V6 engine, at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The new Acura NSX (in the US) will bring a ‘new sports experience’ to the supercar segment. At the heart of the NSX’s performance capabilities is a twin-turbocharged DOHC V6 engine, mated to a all-new 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and a three-electric-motor Sport Hybrid System. The race-inspired V6 engine and the 9-speed DCT delivers quick gear shifts and rev-matching down-shifts. The rear electric motor is housed between the engine and transmission, and supports acceleration, braking, and transmission-shifting performance. The NSX’s front wheels are driven by independent high-output electric motors each, delivering instantaneous torque responses and left-to-right torque distribution. With this insane performance-spec engine, the NSX is expected to churn out a net peak output of over 550 PS.
The next-generation NSX has been designed with uncompromising focus on the driver, which has led the company to create a ‘human support cockpit’. The interior features a dynamic TFT display, hand-crafted leather dashboard and performance seats. The dial-operated Integrated Dynamic System features Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track modes. The system adjusts the engine, motors, transmission, and chassis response based on the driver and the driving environment. The Quiet mode enables electric-only driving at lower speeds for a short duration, while in Sport and Sport+ modes, the vehicle responses become increasingly sharp, and in Track mode, the NSX goes bonkers; revealing the full spectrum of its performance capabilities.
The NSX will be built exclusively at the company’s high-performance facility in Ohio.
