Mercedes-Benz India have launched the most powerful V8 avatar of the S-Class, the AMG S 63, at Rs 2.53 crore (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
Having your cake and eating it too seems to be the logic with this luxury super-saloon. The S 63 L is 5.25 metres long, 1.9 metres wide and weighs 2,070 kg, which includes cossetting luxury and technological wizardry, and every imaginable creature comfort, but what it also has is a 5.5-litre ‘BiTurbo’ V8 with 585 PS and 900 Nm of torque, mated to the 7-speed AMG SpeedShift multi-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels.
The humongous peak torque is just 100 Nm shy of the flagship twin-turbo V12-powered S 65, and it arrives at as low as 2,250 RPM and stays on till 3,750 RPM. The peak power of 585 PS – again just 45 PS short of the S 65 – comes in at 5,500 RPM. All this results in a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint of just 4.4 seconds. The strong bottom-end (and equally muscular mid-range) together with the air suspension, underscores its wafting ride. It can effortlessly gather speed without any feeling of strain whatsoever. The interior is made from the finest materials and is extremely well put-together and includes a HUD unit that displays navigation information as well. It’s a sports car with a business-class interior, put simply.
The asking price is a steep Rs 2.53 crore, before taxes. The Mercedes-AMG S 63 will be available at AMG Performance Centres around the country on order. Look forward to our road test in Car India soon. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz still have five new launches to go in line with their ’15 in 15′ slated for the remainder of this year, the next one is most likely to be GLE-Class, which will replace the M-Class.
