The North American International Auto Show is on and Porsche have revealed their new 911 Targa models. Unlike the Type 997, the 991 models use a newly developed and innovative folding roof.
The legendary original Targa model featured a movable roof section over the front seats with wide bars in place of the B-pillars and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar. The new models follow the same vein but unlike the classics, the roof can be opened and closed simply using a button. The fully automatic roof system stows the convertible top behind the rear seats. That only means that the 911 range gets extended with yet another uniquely desirable model.
As always, the Targa-top models are available only with four-wheel drive but will be available with two engine choices: a 350 PS 3.4-litre flat-six and an S model with a 400 PS 3.8-litre flat-six. Both engines are, of course, naturally aspirated and rev high and fast. 0-100 km/h is dismissed in 4.8 seconds and 4.4 seconds, while the top whacks are a claimed 282 km/h and 296 km/h respectively.
The 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S will arrive in India following their international launch. They will be imported as CBU units, like the rest of the range with price tags estimated to start around the Rs 1.6 crore mark. Orders are being taken and deliveries are set to begin post-May 2014.
