The new Toyota Fortuner 2021 has been introduced in India starting from Rs 29.98 lakh. The Fortuner Legender has also been launched from Rs 37.58 lakh, both ex-showroom.
The popular full-size SUV moves into the new decade with a new avatar. The Toyota Fortuner 2021 sees sportier styling and LED lighting among several changes. Launched in 2009, the Fortuner was built on the Innovative Multipurpose Platform, the same as the popular Innova. It soon became an icon in India in the 11 or so years it has been here. It commands a massive piece of the full-size SUV segment. It offered a potent yet frugal turbo-diesel and even a petrol option, catering to varied needs across the country. With some legendary names as elder siblings – the Land Cruiser in particular, the Fortuner has some enviable genes. Now, the new model plans to raise the bar even further.
The Toyota Fortuner 2021 duo get heavily revised styling. The highlights are the larger radiator grille and tweaked bumpers. The new look LED headlamps with LED light guides look modern and appear more luxurious. It also gets beefy skid-plates and 18-inch chrome-metallic alloy wheels with 265/60 R18 tyres. An important point to note is that the Fortuner has earned a five-star safety rating from the ASEAN NCAP. It packs Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), with Brake Assist, Hill Assist Control, and a Traction Control System, among other features.
Inside, the Toyota Fortuner 2021 has a greater focus on comfort and connected features for the new generation of buyers that lead a dynamic lifestyle. Highlights include an 8.0-inch touchscreen centre display, smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a JBL 11-speaker premium sound system with subwoofer, seat ventilation, as well as geofencing, locate in parking and a send SOS in emergency feature.
Powering the Toyota Fortuner 2021 is a new heavy-duty turbo-diesel engine. An updated 2.8-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine now makes a hefty 204 hp and 420 Nm for the manual, and a full 500 Nm of torque for the AT models. The BS6-compliant engine has a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions and a choice of four-wheel drive. It offers “Eco”, “Normal” and “Sport” drive modes for enhanced driveability in all situations. The go-anywhere SUV gets enhanced selectable 4×4 capability with a lockable differential to provide a firm footing in challenging situation. The petrol engine option is the 2.7-litre, atmospheric in-line four with 166 hp and 245 Nm. It gets a choice of a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic, with rear-wheel drive.
The Toyota Fortuner 2021 is priced starting from Rs 29.98 lakh for the 4×2 MT petrol, going up to the Rs 31.57 lakh for the AT petrol. The diesel starts from Rs 32.48 lakh for the 4×2 MT, and goes up to Rs 34.84 lakh for the 4×2 AT, Rs 35.14 lakh for the 4×4 MT and Rs 37.43 lakh for the 4×4 AT, all ex-showroom.

The more stylish and distinct model shows how seriously Toyota are taking the evolving Indian automotive market. The Legender gets even more unique styling with split quad headlamps and waterfall LED line-guides to go with its unique dual-tone paint finish and black roof. It also gets diamond-cut 18-inch alloy wheels, a powered tail-gate with hands-free kick-gesture operation and, inside, a dual-tone interior and even wireless charging. The Fortuner Legender is available only with the 2.8 turbo-diesel 4×2 AT driveline, priced at Rs 37.58 lakh (ex-showroom).
