Maruti Suzuki India have introduced the diesel version of the Celerio hatchback, priced from Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The new Celerio diesel model, badged DDiS 125 (because of the torque output and not the power) uses a two-cylinder in-line diesel engine developed entirely in-house by Suzuki. It displaces 793 cc, and offers a peak power output of 47.5 PS at 3,500 RPM and 125 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 RPM. For a diesel, the torque curve is quite peaky, building up towards 2,000 RPM, and then tapering down post that speed. With a drive-by-wire set-up for the accelerator pedal, claimed fuel efficiency stands at 27.62 km/l, making it the most efficient car on paper that’s on sale in India. The Celerio DDiS 125 weighs just 880 kg, with the full-loaded top-end variant weighing in at 900 kg.
The features on offer includes a 235-litre boot with 15 cubby holes and storage spaces. You also get Bluetooth connectivity, steering-mounted audio controls and user-customisable security settings. The LDi gets 155/80 rubber on 13-inch rims, with the higher variants using 165/70 R14s. Front brakes are ventilated discs with drums at the back. Sadly, ABS is only available on the top-end ZDi (O) model. The ZDi is offered with a driver airbag, while the ZDi (O) has dual-front airbags.
The pricing (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the new diesel Celerio are as follows:
LDi – Rs 4.65 lakh
VDi – Rs 4.95 lakh
ZDi – Rs 5.25 lakh
ZDi (O) – Rs 5.71 lakh
