John Cooper Works or JCW designed MINIs have always been a cut above the stock production model, and the house of JCW has pulled it off again, with the latest JCW MINI based on the most recent 3-door MINI Cooper making its debut in the UK. First off, here are the vital statistics as we look at how this MINI is the fastest ever. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo posts performance figures of 231 PS and 320 Nm of torque. This means a 0-100 km/h of 6.3s with the manual box and 6.1s using launch control and the six-speed Steptronic sports auto-box.
So where does all this performance come from? Well, the turbocharger on the car has been developed especially for the JCW MINI Cooper 3-door and the front apron now has bigger twin air-vents to keep that motor cool. Power delivery is sustained through the rev range using harmonised pistons, and the package is rounded off by a sports exhaust system. All this and more has contributed to this increase in performance, making this iteration of the MINI the swiftest in its illustrious history.
Of course, being a MINI it isn’t just about straight-line speeds, and MINI claim that the JCW MINI Cooper handles in that signature go-kart fashion too, and JCW has infused a whole bunch of technical aids to justify this claim. This includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) which comprises of Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC) and Performance Control, and Torque Steer Compensation has also been included to further high speed handling response. The interior and exterior of the standard MINI Cooper 3-door have also been reworked to set the JCW version apart from its already sporty ‘S’ trim.
While the car has only been launched in the UK as of right now, expect this new JCW MINI Cooper to make it to Indian shores in the future as well. The UK prices for the car stand at £23,050 six-speed manual and £24,380 for the six-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. While that would convert to Rs 23.15 lakh and Rs 24.5 lakh approximately, expect both the variants to be priced upwards of Rs 40 lakh here owing to the fact that they’ll be brought in as Completely Built-up Units (CBUs).
