BMW India have launched the all-new M3 and M4 Coupé in the country, marking an expansion of their high-performance M Division models.

The all-new M cars are the highest-performance versions of the 3 Series and 4 Series, fettled by BMW’s M Division to be cars you can use every day as well on track. The M3 and M4 are four- and two-doors of what is essentially the same car. The 4 Series was introduced as the two-door version of the 3 Series, the previous iteration (E90) of which was available as a two-door coupé, convertible and four-door saloon model. This new F30-based M3, the F80, and the F82 M4 Coupé are both powered by a motor that returns to being quintessentially BMW – a straight six.

The new motor however, is far from just a normal inline six. The TwinPower Turbo motor features two twin-scroll turbochargers and direct injection, allowing for maximum power output and incredible driveability with almost imperceptible turbo-lag. It develops 431 PS between 5,500 and 7,300 RPM – a high-revving band for a turbo motor – and a heftier 550 Nm of torque between 1,850 and 5,500 RPM, and that’s something you can feel from the get go.

The power flows through a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission (7 M-DCT) with Drivelogic to the M Active Differential and on to rear wheels. The usual driving modes, are complemented by an additional M Dynamic mode, which lets you extract the most from performance on tap. BMW claim a 0-100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds, and both the Ms will go on to a electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
