The new Mini JCW Countryman has been revealed and it’s packing some serious engine and hardware for being on the road and off it.
The John Cooper Works, or JCW, badge identifies the most potent avatar of a the iconic compact car brand. The updated Mini JCW Countryman is the latest in this vein and brings a slew of changes to make it more potent and capable as well as stand out even more. A modified design, refined equipment and additional options help bring out its sporty and exclusive character. The styling elements are primarily the “John Cooper Works” badge on the radiator grille, adaptive LED headlamps, bonnet stripes and signature 18-inch light-alloy wheels with brake calipers painted in Chili Red, with standard sports braking system also adding to the appeal. Of course, there’s a lot more to it.
Bringing the power is the new 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that endows the Mini JCW Countryman with 306 hp and a 450 Nm. An eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission powers the now standard ALL4 all-wheel drive system. The differential lock on the front wheels integrated into the Steptronic transmission helps ensure maximum traction in all conditions and incredible acceleration off the line when needed. The suspension technology featuring the John Cooper Works racing know-how, should further enhance the dynamic driving experience. The standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) helps as does the electro-mechanical steering. An adaptive chassis is offered as an option. Sudden spurts, or speed burst manoeuvres, will now have a characteristic sound of the Mini JCW Countryman-specific sport exhaust system with larger 95-mm diameter tailpipes.
The Mini JCW Countryman will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. Rated efficiency figures are a fuel consumption between 13.70 and 14.49 km/l with between 156 and 166 g/km of CO2.
As one would imagine, the Mini JCW Countryman is a lot more car with its four doors, five full-size seats, a variable-use interior and a boot volume that can be expanded to as much as 1 390 litres. It works well as a daily in city traffic, on longer journeys and even excursions off the beaten path. The optional five-inch digital instrument display behind the steering wheel and Connected Media equipment and 8.8-inch touchscreen feature even higher quality design. In this new version, it has a bezel and touch-sensitive control panels with high-gloss Piano Black surfaces.
