Mercedes-Benz have begun assembling the S500 luxury saloon in Chakan, near Pune, barely two months since its introduction into the market.
The S500 was a highly anticipated launch in the country and the equipment on offer was aimed at raising the bar in the battle of the premium luxury saloons. This was the first time Mercedes-Benz used the long wheelbase as the standard building block, with the short wheelbase model (for certain markets abroad) derived from it. With a new 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 engine making 460 PS and 700 Nm of torque, the new W222 S500 casts a massive shadow over its predecessor, with an increase of 91 PS and 195 Nm. But that’s not all, the new S500 packs in a multitude of goodies encompassing comfort, entertainment and safety. You can read all about them in our detailed road test.
The S500 will now cost Rs 1.36 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai), a drop of Rs 21 lakh from the earlier price. It will also enjoy lower excise duty from the recently announced sops for large sedans. Deliveries will commence this June.
Mercedes-Benz have also begun their ‘Chauffeur Training Program’ to impart knowledge of the new systems in the car and also enhance their soft skills to improve the luxury experience.
