Mercedes have the rear-wheel drive only S-Class Coupé on sale in Germany.
When the S-Class Coupé arrived, it came with only two engine options – both twin-turbo V8s – one Benz and one AMG. Now, though, the two-wheel drive variants have arrived, as has the mental S65 AMG Coupé, with its twin-turbo V12.
The new S500 Coupé uses the same 455-PS twin-turbo V8 but now features the company’s new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. It now weighs 2,030 kg – 155 kilos less than the 4MATIC. The 0-100 time is 4.6 seconds though, and the top whack is limited to 250 km/h. At €122,153.5 (Rs 97.7 lakh) it also costs lesser than the 4MATIC, obviously.
The S63 AMG Coupé also gets the RWD-only treatment, which means 900 Nm of torque going to the two 285s at the rear. However, the biggest news, literally, is the arrival of the S65 AMG Coupé. With the legendary M178 twin-turbo V12 making 630 PS and a full 1,000 Nm of torque, the S65 AMG Coupé takes the cake and eats it too, while burning rubber all the way off the line.
The S-Class Coupé should arrive in India soon, although the market for luxury coupés has not really been all that hot over the recent years.
