Mercedes-Benz India will launch the most powerful compact sedan, in fact, the only high-performance compact sedan in India come July 22.
The Mercedes CLA45 AMG 4MATIC will be launched soon and signals the arrival of the world’s most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine. The CLA-Class has been an attractive offering, with the looks of a baby CLS-Class on the company’s MFA platform, which also underpins the A-, B- and upcoming GLA-Class. Bookings, for the latter of which, have already commenced.
The CLA45 AMG will be powered by a 1,991cc turbo-petrol four-cylinder motor makes 360 PS at 6,000 RPM and a heady 450 Nm of torque between 2,250 and 5,000 RPM. The 7-speed AMG SpeedShift twin-clutch automatic transmission drives the 4MATIC system which is primarily 100% front-wheel biased, but splits the torque up to 50-50 when it detects any slip in the front wheels, or as the situations demands.
The AMG CLA will be positioned below the C63 AMG, which, at Rs 1.01 crore, isn’t nearly as affordable as the standard turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel four-cylinder models. The CLA45 AMG will be priced just below, so a price tag in the region of Rs 75-80 lakh is definitely not unlikely.
We’ve driven the CLA45 AMG in Pune and you can read all about it in our road test in the upcoming August issue of Car India magazine.
