Following the launch of the CLA-Class last month, Mercedes-Benz launched the diesel-engined new C-Class today – the C220 CDI – at a starting price of Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Style variant. The top-end Avantgarde variant is available for Rs 42.90 lakh. In addition, the company has also announced the localised production of the C200 petrol variant, which is now priced at Rs 40.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Avantgarde trim. The production of the petrol variant will commence from May.
The C220 CDI engine massages a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.2 km/l, which the company says is the highest in its class and produces 170 PS between 3,000 and 4,200 RPM. The torque curve plateaus at 400 Nm between 1,400 and 2,800 RPM. Mercedes-Benz had promised 15 new launches in 2015 and true to their word, this is the second launch in the second month of the year.
