Volkswagen have unveiled a meaner, faster and more mental version of the Golf R at the Beijing Auto Show. Hot-hatchbacks would be cowering with fear!
The new car (would you believe it?) still uses the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four, but power is now up to 400 PS with torque now at 450 Nm (up 100 PS and 70 Nm respectively). The six-speed DSG twin-clutch automatic still does the duty of transferring the power to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system which handles splitting duties.
The Golf R 400 is wider, lower and wears 235/35 R19 rubber. It only weighs 1,420 kg. Peak torque is available from 2,400-6,200 RPM and that means it’s quick off the line. How quick? How about Audi RS 7 quick? 0-100 takes 3.9 seconds and the top speed is electronically governed at 280 km/h.
Yes, it’s only a concept, but who cares? Right?
