McLaren Automotive’s stall at Geneva Motor Show will be grabbing eyeballs by the dozen thanks to the P1 GTR!Last month we told you about the P1 GTR testing in and around Europe and even the middle east. Now, McLaren have officially confirmed the P1 GTR in its limited edition livery for Geneva, one that has been inspired by one of the five F1 GTRs that dominated the 24 hours of Le Mans 20 years ago.
The P1 GTR was developed with a very track focused design philosophy and hence there haven’t been too many changes from the design concept that was showcased last year. Racing intent has resulted in 10 per cent increase in the down-force and a weight loss of 50 kg. This has been accomplished by weight savings across all the components in the powertrain as well as the chassis. For example, the wind screen is just 3.2 mm thick and the toughed glass panels on the road going car have been replaced with carbon-fibre. The front is now 80 mm wider and the car sits 50 mm lower now. The adjustable rear wing on the P1 is replaced with a monstrous fixed rear wing, which sits 400 mm above the body work- 100 mm higher than the road version. This translates to a colossal down-force of 660 kg at 240 km/h!
Powering the P1 GTR is the 3.8 litre V8 now producing 800 PS. Additionally, the electric motors produce the equivalent of another 200 PS. The limited edition P1 GTR will be available to a select few who are a part of the GTR Driver Programme that will commence at the Circuit de Catalunya later this year.
