The Auto expo has already thrown up a veritable feast of automobile goodness for those inclined towards this industry. Indian automotive giants Mahindra have only raised the bar for this: the 12th auto expo by showcasing a clutch of intriguing electric vehicles at their stall. The electric cars were given major prominence, and two of them in particular, had more to offer than what met the eye.
The Mahindra Formula-E car was finally showcased to the Indian public. This car will participate in the inaugural Formula E electric car racing championship taking place in September this year. This race is sponsored by the FIA, and keeping in line with with Mahindra’s big strides in the realm of international motorsport, here too, they are the only team representing India in this new venture.
Along with the Mahindra Racing Formula-E car, the Indian marque also showcased a two-seater sportscar concept called Mahindra Reva – The Halo. As you may have guessed from the Reva prefix, this is indeed an electric sports car, the first of its kind from any Indian manufacturer. The car is chock full of innovative technology, the most fascinating of which is something Mahindra call ‘boost mode’ which helps the car do 0-100 km/h in under 8 seconds and hit top speeds of 160 km/h. The car is also capable of doing 200 kms on a full battery. Mahindra also claim that The Halo is fully equipped with the latest in safety, and entertainment technology including a dual touchscreen infotainment system.
Mahindra also showcased their latest mass produced electric car – the e2o. The e2o also has been given some updates worthy of a second glance. This includes Quick2Charge through which the battery of the car can be charged fully in just 60 minutes, Sun2Car through which solar energy can be harvested and used to power the car, and Car2Home, through which in times of emergency, the car’s battery can be used to power a home for a short while, all of which function through one single port for convenience.
Chetan Maini, CEO, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles spoke about Mahindra’s electric based focus, saying, “l firmly believe that Mahindra is on the cusp of a huge breakthrough in shaping the way we will commute in the 21st century. Electric is undoubtedly the paradigm of the future and Mahindra Reva stands committed to a cleaner environment for the future generations.”
