Hyundai India have introduced the all-new Xcent sedan, based on the award-winning Grand i10 hatch.

The new Xcent sounds uncannily like ‘Accent’ but will help keep the brand unique with its take on the name. The Grand i10 was a surprisingly sprightly and spacious hatch and showed that a small car can be extremely practical, good to drive and even fun! Launched in entry, S, and SX trims with Option packs, the new Xcent will deliver the boot for those looking for it, literally.

Much like the norm here, the popular hatchback gets the boot, in the right way, of course. The added storage space will be a boon, and those who were shying away from a good hatchback because of ‘what people will say’ can go ahead and buy their sedan now. The interiors were already top notch, and there wasn’t anything more (apart from adjustable front head-rests) which we would like to see in the car.

Even so, all the features of the Grand have either been retained or enhanced. You can have 15” diamond-cut alloy wheels, multimedia with 1GB internal storage, automatic air-conditioning, a cooled glove-box, ABS with dual front airbags among other goodies.

The engine line-up is the same as the Grand i10. You have the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol motor with 83 PS at 6,000 RPM and 114 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. The petrol is availabel with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic box. The 1.1-litre U2 CRDi diesel has been tuned up ever so slightly and now offers 72 PS at 4,000 RPM (+1) and 180 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 RPM  (+20), paired to the 5-speed manual. The manual petrol delivers a claimed 19.1 km/l with the automatic rated at 16.9 km/l by the ARAI. The diesel boasts a claimed 24.4 km/l. Interesting indeed. The car will be available in six colours.
