Hyundai Kona Electric sales have breached the 1-lakh-sales milestone just over two years after it was launched, marking a new achievement for Hyundai in the electric car space.

The Hyundai Kona was the manufacturer’s first electric offering in India and it was received fairly well by the populace. The Kona Electric is an all-electric variant that offers all the conveniences of a regular combustion-engine car without the emissions. On June 30, the Kona reached 103,719 units in sales – just over two years since its global launch in March 2018. Hyundai further revealed that the Kona Electric sold more than three-quarters of that figure in markets outside South Korea. Spurred by this success, the manufacturer announced that they are going to make zero-emissions mobility a crucial part of their long-term goal and are planning to sell as many as 560,000 zero-emission cars by 2025.

The Kona Electric is propelled by a 100-kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) that develops 136 hp and a peak torque of 395 Nm. Juice for the motor comes from a 39.2-kWh lithium-polymer battery that charges from zero to 80 per cent in less than an hour.
