Ford’s small yet powerful 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine has added yet another feather to its cap. It has been declared the International Engine of the Year again for the year 2014, making for an unprecedented third consecutive victory in this category. The engine has repeatedly been recognized on various platforms for its engineering and design. It has won more than ten international awards that include seven International Engine of the Year awards in the short span of three years – including Best New Engine in 2012.
The small engine develops a healthy dose of power. It is already available with 100 PS and 125 PS, with Ford recently having launched a 140 PS version in the new Fiesta Red Edition and Fiesta Black Edition models. In the new Fiesta, the engine is capable of reaching 200 km/h while still maintaining an impressive claimed fuel efficiency figure of 22 km/l.
In India, Ford has introduced the EcoBoost engine with their EcoSport compact SUV in India, and it has proved to be a success for the American car makers here. Currently, Ford only sells its Fiesta with a diesel engine in India, but we hope to see an EcoBoost powered Fiesta and Figo soon.
