The Geneva Motor Show has been throwing up one glamorous supercar after another, but here’s something to break away from that particular mould.
American auto-giants Ford have announced an upgrade to their popular EcoSport crossover. Aesthetic changes include a refurbished instrument panel with chrome embellishments, dimming cabin lights, and chrome highlights for window buttons.
The real meat of the matter in terms of this upgrade however comes in the form of updates to the driving dynamics. The suspension has been re-jigged with the a reworked rear twist beam, fine-tuned spring and damper rates, and the reduction of the ride height by 10mm. The electronics have been worked on as well – in particular the Electronic Stability Control system and power steering has been recalibrated for better performance.
Other changes include a repositioned handbrake lever for easier access, thickened damping in the doors and dash for reduced NVH levels, and fresh, tight seals for all the pedals. The new EcoSport will also sport a rear view camera and integrated SatNav for the first time in the car’s history. The car on display at Geneva, called the EcoSport S is the first example of this new and improved EcoSport.
There’s little doubt that this upgraded EcoSport will make its way to India, especially since the current version of the car is already quite popular here. When it does, you can be sure we’ll be put it through its paces and let you know how effective Ford’s claimed improvements are.
