Ford India unveiled the Aspire – the sub four-metre sedan which is based on the same platform which will underpin the new Figo as well; both of which are slated to go on sale later this year.
The stunning new exterior now features the trapezoidal grille, headlamps with chrome highlights (first seen on the new Fiesta) and flared wheel arches. Interiors include first-in-class device dock. The infotainment systems include SYNC Applink, which allows users to connect and use their phones with just voice commands, thus ensuring hands-free usage. Safety features include segment-first side and curtain airbags. The Figo Aspire will be available with two engine options – a new 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine with 85 PS and the proven 1.4-litre TDCi diesel with 68 PS, or the 1.5-litre TDCi unit with 91 PS.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the inauguration of Ford’s manufacturing and engine assembly plant in Sanand. The occasion saw Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister, Gujarat, Saurabhbhai Patel, Minister of Finance and Vijaybhai Rupani, Minister of Transport.

The facility has cost the company an investment of Rs 6,244 crore (US $ 1 billion)  and will have a total installed capacity of 610,000 engines and 440,000 vehicles. The plant is spread over 460 acres, the plant will house a body, paint and an assembly shop in addition to a full-fledged powertrain plant. In the first stage of development, the plant will operate at an installed capacity of 270,000 engines and 240,000 engines. Initially, the plant will have strength of 2,500 employees in a single shift.
