For the first time ever, Ford have introduced the Mustang in right-hand-drive avatar, and it’s coming here. We take a closer look.
The all-new Ford Mustang was developed in a staggeringly short amount of time. It was also the first time Ford used independent rear suspension, and led to an overhaul of the front suspension system as a result. The all-new Mustang is just that – all new!
Even the heart department has a new entrant, as many are aware already, the EcoBoost will now power the Mustang too. Don’t fret, however, because isn’t the 1.6 or the 2.0. There’s a new 2.3-litre unit making 314 PS at 5,500 RPM and 434 Nm of torque between 2,500 and 4,500 RPM, as much as the old 4.6-litre V8. More good news comes in the fact that it can drink regular unleaded and live happily ever after.
Furthermore, the other option on sale in the UK is the Mustang GT – with the 5.0-litre V8 making 418 PS and 524 Nm of torque. Both engines will be offered with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive as standard, with an optional six-speed automatic available as well.
Overseas, the base Mustang will get a 3.7-litre V6 with just over 300 PS, with a more potent GT350R set to receive a 5.2-litre V10 with 520 PS or thereabouts.
The Mustang has already hit proving grounds around the world, even setting commendable lap times around the iconic Nürburgring. We can’t wait to have a go in the new pony car.
