Audi RS 7 Twin Turbo V8 TFSI

The MMI on the RS 7 might look the same as before, but it gets a software update which endows it with a few more features. Connectivity options have also improved as the RS 7 now comes with two USB ports located in the compartment under the central arm-rest. Headroom at the back is still a bit low owing to the low roof, but knee-room and thigh support are pretty good.

It has been observed time and again that Audi cars offer you the best of both worlds and the design and layout of the RS 7’s cabin is yet another proof to that. The quality of the material used all around is simply the best and the fit-and-finish, as in every other Audi, is immaculate.
What interested me the most, apart from the new changes, was what lurked under that long and wide bonnet. A 4.0-litre TFSI V8 is what caught my fancy on what had now turned into an interesting hot summer morning. This engine suits the RS 7’s personality so much that the company decided to simply keep it the way it is. And it is the most powerful turbo V8 among all the Audi four-door cars.

Two banks of four-cylinders, each in a ‘V’ configuration, displace 3.993 litres of air, which gives birth to 560 horses and a turning force of 700 Newton metres. These are dizzying figures. The moment you press the starter button, you can hear the magic happen inside the cylinders. Hearing this fantastic music the expression on a petrol-head’s face is, in one word, priceless. The soul-stirring soundtrack of the RS 7 signalled my brain to release the adrenaline into my bloodstream. I was quick to engage the dynamic mode and slot the autobox into S, so the revs would reach the red-line. This eventually triggered my right foot to depress the throttle pedal. I couldn’t wipe off the grin on my face as I was pushed back into the seat as the RS 7 sprinted ahead like a mighty feline. Whoa! The acceleration is unbelievable and it should be, because a massive beast was at work under that long hood. This breathtaking acceleration means that the 0-100 km/h sprint is dismissed in just 4.48 seconds, which is insane for a car that weighs almost two tonnes. Cruising at triple-digit speeds is unbelievably easy and touching the top speed of 250 km/h (limited) becomes a child’s play if you have an empty stretch of road ahead of you. However, should you wish to go beyond 250 km/h, there is an option to do so. You can get rid of the speed-limiter, which allows you to touch the magical 305 km/h mark with ease. I am sure it would be within a very short time that the car would reach that mark as well.
