Audi updates the A3 line up by replacing the earlier basic, petrol-powered Premium+ variant with this new more affordable Premium variant

Audi’s aggression in the entry-level luxury segment continues as the company recently launched a brand new variant of their entry-level model the A3. Known as the A3 40 TFSI Premium, this new variant is available at a price of Rs 25.5 lakh (Ex-Mumbai), making it the most affordable Audi in India. Powering the Premium variant of the A3 is Audi’s 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine capable of producing 180 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The Premium variant has replaced the earlier Premium+ variant, becoming the basic petrol-powered A3 available in the country.

Audi has managed to bring down the cost by more than Rs 5 lakh by getting rid of some of the features of the earlier Premium+ variant. The A3 40 TFSI Premium has ditched the 17-inch wheels for smaller 16-inch ‘Y-shaped’ five-spoke alloys, parking sensors are present at the rear however, the camera support is gone, headlamp now comes with conventional halogen bulbs instead of xenon fixtures and tyre pressure monitor is now gone.

However, the equipment list is still extensive. The A3 40 TFSI Premium retains Audi’s MMI system, automatic climate control, driver information system, start-stop function, energy recuperation function, lighting package plus, chrome package along with the usual list of features. However, it is the price of the new variant, which will attract a lot more attention.
