Jaguar have revealed the second generation of their XF executive sedan.
Prototypes of the new XF have been spied for months, at the Royal Dock in London’s Canary Wharf. The XF will be formally introduced at the 2015 New York Auto Show and technical specifications will be revealed on April 1st. Expected to go on sale in the US in the Fall of 2015, the car will be based on a stretched version of the aluminium-intensive iQ[Al] platform first seen in the C-X17 crossover concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, and said to be the basis of many future models from the company.
Engine options include everything from the new 163-PS Ingenium 2.0-litre turbo-diesel to the 380-PS 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol. It will sport the eight-speed automatic transmission, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, and claimed class-best fuel economy of over 24 km/l. Highlights of the interior include a fully-digital 12.3”instrument panel and a 10.2” LCD touchscreen.
Before we leave you disappointed, if at all, we believe the XF R will arrive shortly after the standard car, complete with the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with 510 PS and 625 Nm. While we’re high on wishful thinking, the XFR-S may also be offered with that engine making 550 PS and 680 Nm. And then, there is the possibility of the XF SVR – worked upon by their new performance division – which takes the blown V8 to the edge of the performance envelope making close to 600 PS and possibly over 700 Nm. It’s these sort of thought bubbles which leave us licking our lips in anticipation.
