On 4th September Volkswagen AG launched the new generation Golf, one of the best-selling VW models of all time, in Berlin where hundreds of guests attended the event.

On the occasion of the launch Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board of management of Volkswagen AG, said “Six generations of the Golf – 1974 to 2012. That represents 38 years of continuous success for the world bestseller with sales totalling 29.13 million cars. It has also made a tremendous economic impact, safeguarding jobs, and has served as an influential measure of technical progress over the epochs,”. The new Golf is based on the versatile MQB platform so everything is new in the sixth generation Golf, right from the engine to the interiors. VW also redesigned the information and entertainment systems along with many new assistance systems. Two new engines that offer 85PS and 150PS respectively were developed for the new Golf. VW has also equipped all the available engines with start stop technology that lowers the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The new Golf is 100 kilos lighter than the outgoing model and the 140PS petrol engine is equipped with cylinder de-activation technology which further aids low fuel consumption.
