BMW were part of Formula One for a while, and the upside of that was it resulted in the S85 DOHC V10. Seen on the M5, M5 Touring and the M6, the S85 5.0-litre V10 red-lined at 8,250 RPM and made a staggering 507 PS at 7,750 RPM and 520 Nm at 6,100 RPM. It featured a compression ratio of 12:1 and gave this luxury family sports saloon the performance to put many dedicated sports cars to shame. It was awarded ‘International Engine of the Year’ across several categories for four years in a row, between 2005 and 2008.
