Mention the Audi TT and the vivid image of its aggressive and striking visage is the first thing that pops into your head.
Instantly recognisable due to its then almost un-supercar like features and capability to achieve breakneck speeds, the TT has been an attention grabber and has carved a niche in every car enthusiast’s mind ever since the masses got their first glimpse of the ‘compact sportscar’ way back in 1998.
Now, 15 years down the line, the TT has sealed and delivered an enviable 500,000 units of this magnificent specimen across all generations, and to commiserate this landmark achievement, Audi have announced the launch of a special edition of the current TT called the TTS. Just 500 of this limited edition variant are going to be released for ownership worldwide, and will include both the coupé and roadster models.
The TTS comes equipped with the same 2.0-litre turbo-charged direct-injection TSFI engine as is optional in the current TT, but it produces an improved 272 PS and 350 Nm of torque. The super car also comes with a choice in transmission, either a 6-speed manual or an S tronic twin-clutch 6-speed transmisson, with the S tronic capable of allowing the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds and reach an electronically capped top speed of 249 km/h.
Aesthetically, the TTS has been given a facelift to make it instantly recognisable from its production spec peers. A fresh revamp to the body design, new 19” alloys, a quadruple exhaust pipe arrangement, sports suspension and magnetic ride damper control are all part of this upgraded package, along with a raft of interior modifications and technological upgrades to boot. Furthermore, just to make sure anyone who rides in the car knows that it’s a unique model not released for mass production, each cars interior also sports a plaque with the words ‘1 of 500’ written across it.
The car carries an on-road price of £38,860 ( Rs. 38,01,000 approx.) for the Coupé and £42,320 (Rs. 41,39,000 approx.) if the Roadster is your choice, according to UK prices, and is available in limited quantity in a variety of Audi dealerships across the globe.
