The internet is abuzz with the news that the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo will be the platform FIAT use to unveil a brand new Punto with an Abarth makeover.
With the availability of the Jeep brand also imminent, FIAT’s stage at the Delhi Auto Expo will also be used as a spring-board to introduce the Jeep brand to India’s market on a larger scale.
Expect the Abarth Punto to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors, and be a lot more race focused than its regular sibling. Everything from the styling, to the graphics, to the engine, will be designed to make the car go faster, and look sportier. If the car does stay true to its European version – the Punto Evo Abarth, it should sport a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo-four engine (which also powers the Linea here) only it will be tuned to produce close to 165 PS, rather than the 114 PS it makes in the Linea. The engine should also boast Fiat’s signature MultiAir technology, making the car faster and more efficient. The powerplant produces 250 Nm of torque and a take a very reasonable 7.9 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h.
