For all those who find an open top car sportier than the conventional ‘roofed’ one, the bull now has wind blowing through its hair too.
Italian supercar marque Lamborghini recently pulled covers off the 2014 Aventador Roadster, a open top version of their recently launched coupe. Nothing changes under the hood in the Roadster, with the same 6.5-litre V12 (oozing out over 700 PS power), mated to a seven-speed transmission, the car is faster than one’s imagination. The most obvious in styling that the Roadster brings along is in its razor-cut removable two piece hood, which when pulled hides behind the front luggage compartment of the car. Making the best of their composite technology, Lamborghini have managed to make a rather light weight removable roof panel (weighing 6 kg) with carbon fibre, but with strength of titanium. To accommodate those additional six kilograms that the roof panel brings along, the car now comes with 10 kilos lighter alloys (20X21 inches).
The rear pillar has also been modified to support the removable roof panel, along with providing ventilation to the engine. Another big change that can be spotted on the Roadster is the pair of hexagonal windows on the engine hood, which the company calls ‘central spinal column’, which allows efficient engine ventilation and drainage of rain water. The Roadster also gets a new removable wind deflector above the front windscreen to reduce the wind noise. Pinnacle of luxury, the car comes with powered rear windscreen, which when lowered makes the music the engine makes audible to the passengers, and when raised, makes the cabin favorable for a conversation. For all the caviar and champagne, the Aventador Roadster is also the Lamborghini with the fattest price tag, up for sale at Rs 2.1 crore (in Europe). How far can you go to get the best, I say and if you can, then you got it.
