The diesel CR-V was a much sought after vehicle in all markets it was sold in.

However, Honda India never did launch the 2.2L diesel mill which had done duty in Europe all this while. Now however, there’s a new one which takes efficiency up a couple of notches.

Armed with a new 1.6L i-DTEC diesel engine, the new CR-V carries the torch forward quite notably. The inline-4 cylinder engine makes 120 PS of power at 4,000 rpm and a credible 300 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm; more than enough oomph to handle the urban crossover in its latest guise. It weighs a considerable 47 kg less than the old 2.2L i-DTEC equipped model and also has about 40% lesser friction than the older unit. It also features an ECON mode with an Idle Stop system to further improve fuel efficiency. As a result, the CO2 emissions are much lower at 119 g/km. The CR-V i-DTEC is available only with a manual transmission and front-wheel-drive for now, with no further announcements being made about future drivelines.

If it does come to India soon, expect equipment levels to be on par with its petrol-engined counterparts but with a competitive price tag as well.
