The body construction is based on the new evolution of the Audi space frame (AFS) on the new modular transverse platform (MQB). Ultra-high-strength components of hot-shaped steel reinforce the floor of the occupant cell. There is extensive use of aluminium in the form of wrought components cast nodes, extruded sections and aluminium panels are used in the cell and for all exterior skin and bolt-on parts.
The elimination of the traditional air-conditioning control unit gave the Audi designers the freedom to implement the instrument panel to be slim and elegant. Now the a-c controls are located on the round vents that are reminiscent of the jet engine. The Audi virtual cockpit has had a similar effect as it assumes the function of the central MMi monitor.

The three-spoke sport steering wheel has been re-designed and now it has a flat bottom and the broad open spokes have an aluminium look, and the wheel has 14 buttons and rollers.

There is extensive use of Alcantara and Nappa leather on the slim sports seat. The seats are heated and have hot-air vents around your neck to keep you warm when you are driving with the hood down in cold weather as we were in Majorca. The seats are very comfortable and give good support from the side bolstering during hard cornering. The interior is top-class as one has come to expect of Audi.

The DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine produces a healthy 310 PS between 5,800 and 6,200 revolutions per minute and a hefty torque of 380 Nm right from 1,800 RPM through to 5,700 RPM and is mated to a six-speed S tronic gearbox. The power is put down on the road via the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive. The electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch distributes the power optimally between the front and rear axles as required by the driving conditions. The front suspension is McPherson with aluminium sub-frame and anti-roll bar and the rear is a multi-link unit with anti-roll bar system.
