Over the years auctions have usually come up with a lot of surprises; with more and more outrageous bidders every year the stakes keep getting higher.

Back in its glory days of the late 30s the Duesenberg was a bit like our present day’s Rolls Royce. Designed by J. Herbert Newport, this car was truly fit for a king. The 1935 Duesenberg Model J convertible coupe was one of the most beautiful cars in the world and even today it stands the same. Powered by a 6.8-liter inline eight-cylinder DOHC engine this piece of art was made even more beautiful by its traditional upright radiator casing and headlights, and also sported deeply skirted and rounded fenders. The Model J convertible also had those classic suicide doors, a narrow “aerodynamic” tilted windshield and a ‘semi-automatic’ and innovative convertible top.

Only three models of the Model J were made in the world, thus it was super-rare to have one in your garage. With bidders all across the globe wanting to own this super-rare and exquisite vehicle they thronged to the doors of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, one of the worlds most reputed auction events where it was sold at a mind-boggling price of $4,510,000 (INR 244,916,061). What was even more special about this classic was that fact that this unique Model J convertible was the only one to be equipped with a supercharger.
