Home / Home / Cosworth to bid adieu to F1; Marussia looks for new partner

Marussia_Cosworth_webWith Formula 1 set to witness a switch to more efficient turbocharged V6 engines next season, Cosworth don’t look like they will continue to be a part of the sport.

Cosworth are one of the leading names in high-performance race engines and have for long supplied Formula 1 teams; noted customers being Williams, Jordan and Virgin Racing. This season however, Cosworth supply engines to just one outfit, the Russian supercar brand owned Marussia, after HRT failed to find a buyer before the start of the 2013 season.

Andy Webb, CEO of the Marussia F1 team, stated that they are looking at their options for an engine partner next year. While Ferrari and Mercedes are on top of the list; price will be an important consideration as the turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engines will be priced significantly higher than the outgoing 2.4-litre V8 engines.

As far as engine suppliers go, the rumour mills have been spinning away with mentions of the return of Japanese giants Honda and Toyota; the latter said to be considering re-entry under their Lexus badge.
