Visually, the Aventador is not a radical departure from its predecessors, but rather an evolution of Lamborghini’s mad-as-a-bat design philosophy. Styling cues from the Reventon, Murcielago and Gallardo abound here and yet the car manages to strike a chord all of its own. Motive power comes from a new 6.5 litre V12 mounted mid-back, producing 700PS of bull power, mated to a seven-speed “Independent Shifting Rods” single-clutch ‘box with limited slip-diff’. And for the first time on a Lamborghini the suspension is derived straight from F1, comprising of a sophisticated inboard pushrod spring and damper setup. Wheels are 19-inch at the front, 20-inch at the rear, shod with 255/35 and 335/30 Pirelli P Zeros respectively. Kerb weight is 1,574 kg, compared to the Murcièlago’s 1,665 kg. The stated top speed is 350kmph, putting this latest Lamborghini straight into Zonda territory. The price is expected to be around the Rs. 1.6 crore mark in the US. The name, as you might have guessed, comes from a Spanish prize bull.
And the most interesting part? As we go into print, we hear a dozen Aventadors have been already booked in India.
