German automotive giant Audi adds another feather in its cap

The Audi R8 e-tron has officially set a new world record at 8:09.099 minutes for the fastest lap time for a production car with an electric-drive at the legendary Nürburgring circuit in Germany. The previous record stood at 7:11.57 minutes, achieved by a Gumpert Apollo Sport, which, coincidentally, was powered by an Audi V8 petrol engine.

Audi team driver Markus Winkelhock piloted the high-performance, all-electric-drive sports car around the demanding 20.8 km track. With this Audi has achieved yet another milestone in its illustrious history, following overall wins at the 24-hour races held at the Nürburgring and Le Mans circuits.

Michael Dick, Technical Development (Board Member) stated, “The R8 e-tron has given all of us a magnificent demonstration of its potential on the toughest race track in the world. The record-setting drive confirmed that we are on the right track. And for every one at Audi will agree that for us electric mobility has never been about sacrifice, but is is about emotion, sportiness and driving pleasure.”
