The hustle and bustle of the Pink City welcomed into the mix a multitude of four-wheeled motoring marvels from the past at the 15th Vintage & Classic Car Rally held during 02-03 March 2013. The event was organised by Rajasthan Tourism and the Rajputana Automotive Sports Car Club in association with Audi India and Audi Jaipur.
Over the course of the two-day event, there was an exhibition of 110 cars at Hotel Jai Mahal Palace lawns. The love and care (and money!) invested into these cars was evident from their shine as well as the proud expressions on the faces of the cars’ owners/restorers. These cars were evaluated in the Vintage and Classic categories on various parameters including “Most Original”, “Most Rare”, and “Oldest”. A major attraction for visitors was the set of cars lined up outside the Audi Lounge at the venue, which included the R8 V10, the prototype Silver Arrow, and the Audi 100 won by Ravi Shastri for his performance at the World Series Cricket Championship in 1985. On the second day, there was a short drive-cum-rally through the city and past its historical spots, with the fleet of cars grabbing eyeballs by the dozen! The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony at the Hotel Clarks Amer.
This year marks the second time that Audi has associated itself with the Vintage & Classic Car Rally. Speaking on the occasion, Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, expressed his delight at the continuing partnership with the Rajputana Automotive Sports Car Club and his joy at displaying historical cars. He considered this event to be an affirmation of Audi’s belief that Rajasthan was the home of Quattro i.e. the best place to demonstrate the capabilities of Audi’s Quattro technology.
