BMW have revealed their new 2 Series Convertible for the global market.

The official unveiling of this new offering from the Bavarian brand will take place at 2014 Paris Motor Show. The soft-top convertible is set to fill the shoes of the highly-popular 1 Series Convertible come next month when the car goes on sale. Based on the standard 2 Series Coupé, the convertible is longer wider and has a longer wheelbase as well. The front and rear tracks have been extended too, making it bigger than the 1 Series in every aspect!

The 2 Series Convertible will be available with four engine options, including, for the first time from the company, a diesel, which uses the 190-PS 2.0-litre four in the 220d. The new BMW convertible also gets an M Performance variant, the M235i. Fuel economy improvements over the previous model average 18 per cent. BMW also added that the convertible has significant improvements in passenger space and access, acoustic comfort, style, dynamism and equipment. BMW will also incorporate it’s wireless ‘Connected Drive’ service in the 2 Series Convertible.

The standard electronic assistance systems include Dynamic Stability Control; incorporating Anti-lock Braking, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Brake Control. These are supported by Brake Assist, Fading Compensation, Brake Drying, the Start-Off Assistant and the Active Differential Brake. The car can also be specified with either MSport or Adaptive MSport suspension and MSport braking system.

The MSport suspension and braking system, with model-specific tuning, are standard on the 245-PS 228i and 326-PS M235i, the latter of which also has custom-tuned Variable Sport steering. The suspension set-up and damping of the range-topping model take into account, not only its exceptional performance, but also the characteristics introduced by its soft roof. Options also include a BMW M Performance limited-slip differential.

Three choices of roof colour are available, the standard one is black, but two optional colours, anthracite and brown, are both interwoven with a silver thread which generates a reflective appearance under lights.

We hope to see the 2 Series in both its avatars in India soon.
