Ahead of the introduction of Morgan’s new wide-body sports car, the legendary niche sports-car makers have announced the end of their V8-powered models.
Morgan are famous for making their Aero 8 and former Plus 8 models, powered by BMW V8 engines. The last two models to feature the BMW N62 V8 engine are heading into Morgan’s heritage fleet, and the Plus 8 will be the 300th one to receive this engine. The BMW N62 was available in 4.4- and 4.8-litre capacities and outputs of up to 367 PS. Both the models featured fine craftwork and classic styling, notably the huge flared wheel-arches and tapering coupé body style.
Morgan will launch a new “Wide Body” sports car in 2019, built upon an all-new bonded aluminium fabricated platform. It will use a powertrain that’s never before been installed in a Morgan, and it will be the most dynamically capable production Morgan model ever, positioned above the Plus 4, 4/4, and Roadster models.
Graham Chapman, Technology Director at Morgan Motor Company, said, ‘We are excited to be launching the “Wide Body” car in Morgan’s 110th year, and over the coming weeks and months, we will be releasing further details. The 2019 launch of this car is the culmination of several years of unprecedented investment in Design and Engineering for Morgan. This has produced the most advanced development programme in Morgan’s history, the results of which we cannot wait to share with our customers worldwide.’
Morgan are now in their 109th year of production, having built 850 vehicles in 2017, 70 per cent of which were exported through 60 official dealerships in 32 countries.
