Half a century since its debut, the 911 remains the heart of the Porsche brand.
Since its September 1953 debut as the model 901 at the IAA International Automotive Show, it has inspired generations of sportscar aficionados and today is the benchmark for all sportscars.
Porsche’s theme for 2013 is the 50th anniversary of the iconic 911. The celebrations will encompass a wide variety of events, first of which is a “Retro Classics” automobile show in Stuttgart in March 2013. The company is also sending a 1967 model 911 on a world tour, wherein the vintage car will traverse five continents and displayed at Pebble Beach CA, Shanghai, Goodwood UK, Paris and Australia, among other places. It will also attend international fairs, historical rallies and motor sport events. The car’s journey can be tracked at porsche.com/follow-911.
From 4th June to 29th September 2013, the Porsche Museum will be celebrating “50 years of the Porsche 911”, with the history and development of the car being showcased in a special exhibition. In spring 2013, Edition Porsche-Museum – the publishing house of the museum – will publish an anniversary edition entitled “911×911.”
