Horacio Pagani does not rest. Yes, they said the Zonda was done and dusted and the Huayra will receive all the attention. But yet, here we have another Zonda! And who are we to complain?!
Pagani have introduced the all-new Zonda Revolucion at the 9th Pagani Gathering – Vanishing Point 2013 – and the car is instantly identifiable as an extreme-performance hypercar with its carbon-fibre body and red stripe flanked by a pair of white and gold stripes. This is the latest iteration of the iconic Zonda, and in fact the production model of the Zonda R Evoluzione of which we reported just recently, and may we add that even we can’t be entirely sure if it is indeed the last. The new Zonda packs in even more oomph than ever before. No, it isn’t street-legal, and yes, it still uses an AMG racing engine.
The Zonda Revolucion will be the most powerful Zonda yet, with the AMG M120 6.0-litre, V12 engine pumping out all of 800 PS and 730 Nm of torque. And those numbers are sans any forced induction, mind you. To top those numbers, is another number which leads to an even more astonishing number. The Zonda Revolucion weighs just 1,070 kgs. That gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 748 PS/tonne – over a 100 more than the near 640 PS/tonne figure the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport boasts of. Of course, these numbers are, well, just numbers, and no words can explain the ferocity at which they make you realise their real world effects.
Yes, the new Zonda Revolucion makes even the Zonda R seem a bit regular. It has 50 PS more, and adds some technology which makes cutting-edge seem old-fashioned, all this while weighing the same. There’s a host of changes to the car – the aerodynamics are revised, as is the ABS system with new Formula 1-derived Brembo CCMR brakes being added; the traction control system gets 12 settings to allow it to be set exactly to suit the driver’s style; the front bonnet gets new deflectors while the rear bonnet gets a vertical stabiliser; there’s also the Formula 1-style Drag Reduction System (DRS) rear wing to help get even more speed when needed. Then there’s the new 6-speed magnesium transversal sequential transmission to take care of the colossal duty of sending all that power to the rear wheels and manages to shift gears in just 20 milliseconds. Safe to say that all of these changes are sure to help Pagani get even more mind-numbing numbers out of the Zonda Revolucion. Remember, the Zonda R lapped the Nürburgring in just 6 mins 47.50. Considering what the new car has to offer, we can safely expect it to shave off quite a bit of that time if it does take to the iconic race track.
Pagani will make just 5 of the Zonda Revolucion. Each will be priced at € 2.2 million (Rs 16.25 crore) before all duties and taxes. Yes, the moisture you feel is probably part eye-water and part tears of joy.
