During the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, VinFast announced that they would be coming to India. Following the event, we caught up with Ashwin Ashok Patil, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, VinFast Auto India Private Limited, for a quick chat.

Welcome to India. Why have you chosen to start with the VF6 and VF7 when you have such a big portfolio of products?
We have studied the Indian market and we have realised what potential customers need. They do not want to compromise in terms of anything related to the car, which includes driving experience, features, and, of course, value proposition. This is the segment which we internally think is the fastest growing overall. So, we thought it would be best to offer these two cars in the market, create VinFast as an aspirational brand, and then subsequently go further into the mass segment.m
Do you have a timeline in place to bring the rest of your products to India?
No. Currently our focus is on completing our factory in 2025 and putting the VF7 and the VF6 on Indian roads by the pre-festival period. Study is going on for other models also, but let me tell you one thing, we are not just importing the cars here. All these cars have been thoroughly studied for Indian customer suitability and, based on that, the customization of the cars that will be coming to India.
From the current VinFast portfolio, which is your favourite car?
The VF7.
Our favourite is the VF3. For those living in cities with a lot of traffic and congestion, it seems perfect.
I have been getting a lot of positive feedback about that car. For urban mobility, it is definitely a very suitable option. The VF3 is in our plan. It is the product which has helped VinFast become the number one auto-maker in Vietnam. Now we are also moving to other countries with it. As I mentioned, we are studying and working to make it more suitable as per customer needs and demands.
When may we expect your first dealership?
Pre-festival we have to start selling. So, my dealerships have to be ready by that time. I have to cover majority of India before that. You will soon see our dealerships coming up in all metros and major towns.
