One of the oldest selling car’s of the country gets a new lease of life, as Hindustan Motors’ Ambassador 1.5-litre diesel model has received BS IV certification by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
The oil-burner has been tweaked to pass ARAI’s mass emission, OBD II (on board diagnostics) and other related tests.
Now the HM’s trusted work horse, Ambassador, will be allowed to be on sale in 17 major metro markets. This move is especially important in Kolkata, where most of the taxis use Ambassador cars but sale of BS III version had been banned since April 2010. The newly certified BS IV version Ambassador will start rolling out of HM’s Uttarpara plant in Hooghly from August 2013.
