VW Group’s 100th plant worldwide now in Silao
A new Volkswagen engine plant has been set up in Silao in the central Mexican State of Guanajuato. The plant has a maximum annual capacity of 3,30,000 engines and it also happens to be the Volkswagen Group’s 100th plant worldwide. The factory will supply to Volkswagen’s North American vehicle plants in Puebla/ Mexico and Chattanooga/USA modern and fuel-efficient TSI engines produced in Silao. This plant, spread over 60 hectares of land, will also create over 700 new jobs.
Volkswagen de México CEO Andreas Hinrichs said, “For us, Silao is a big step towards the future. Volkswagen is once again generating strong momentum for growth and employment in the Mexican automotive industry.”
Volkswagen de México currently builds four models – the Jetta, Golf Estate, Beetle and Beetle Cabrio – at the Puebla plant for world markets.
