New version now expected by September 2011
THOSE WAITING FOR THE 2011 version of the five-year-old Swift will have to wait a little longer.
While Maruti recover from the 13-day strike by their workers at the Manesar plant, the launch of the new Swift may get postponed to September this year.
As planned initially, the new Swift was ready to roll out by the end of this month, but the strike adversely affected the schedule. The strike has not only resulted in a loss running into crores of rupees and production time of 12,600 cars, but also in the waiting period for the customers going up. Maruti’s competitors might cash in on the already high waiting period to boost their own sales. This, along with Japanese rivals like Toyota and Honda entering the segment, may prove detrimental to Maruti.
