Audi recently launched the new S6 at the Buddh International Circuit, near Delhi. We take a closer look at the new sports sedan from the German marque
WHEN IT COMES TO THE luxury sedan segment in India, the Germans are the first ones who come to the mind with their penchant for quality and innovation.
Audi in recent years mounted a stiff challenge to the incumbent Mercedes-BMW duo and have seen immense success in the Indian market. The company recently launched the RS5 Coupé in India and now it has launched yet another luxury sports sedan, the new Audi S6, at a price of Rs 85.99 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
EXTERIOR
At first glance, the car cuts a lithe and athletic figure with no overt aggressive cues. Viewed head on, the single-frame grille with the prominent S6 emblem immediately grabs eyeballs. The spoiler lip at the front end provides additional downforce for improved handling, while quad exhaust outlets are an attractive touch.
INTERIOR
The cabin of the car is a fantastic place to be in with new-generation sports seats with an option of alcantara or leather upholstery. The front seats feature electronic adjustment in multiple directions with lumbar support. The interior has carbon inlays and trim inserts in matt finish aluminium. Other highlights include four-zone air- conditioning, Audi Parking Aid Plus, the Driver Information System with a 3.5” colour display and an additional digital speedometer, the Audi sound system with 10 speakers and an optional CD/DVD changer, and MMI Touch. Safety equipment comprises full side, front side and head airbags as well as optional side airbags for the rear seats. Additional comfort comes from Active Noise Cancellation that counters the noise interference inside the cabin, depending on engine and in-cabin noise.
MECHANICALS
Motive power comes from a 4.0-litre, bi-turbo, V8 TFSi engine making 420 PS at 5,500-6,400 RPM and peak torque of 550 Nm from 1,400-5,200 RPM. The engine incorporates cylinder-on-demand technology that shuts down half the cylinders when less power is required, in the interest of lower emission and better fuel efficiency.
The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a scant 4.6 seconds, going to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. Transmission is by way of a seven-speed S-tronic system and asymmetric/dynamic torque split, along with permanent quattro four-wheel drive and an optional sports differential. The car rides on wide 255 /40 R19 tyres mounted on 19” cast aluminium
wheels with a five-armwing design. Adaptive sport air suspension and electromechanical steering allow a sporty yet comfortable ride with the stopping force coming from high-performance brakes.
Speaking about the S6, Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, said, “The letter ‘S’ denotes the unrelenting quest at Audi for sportiness. In the S models, sportiness is the overriding principle, flanked by comfort, aesthetic appeal, elegance, uncompromising quality and high- performance engines.” he believed that the car would set the benchmark for the segment and
continue Audi’s sporting legacy.
Perschke further said, “Audi is the market leader in the sports car and high-performance car segment with the Audi R8, Audi R8 Spyder, Audi S4 and Audi TT Coupé. We are now happy to add the Audi S6 to our portfolio after the launch of the new Audi RS 5 Coupé earlier this month. With these launches, I am confident of consolidating our position even further.”
