Mercedes-AMG are reportedly working on a bigger, badder and more extreme G63 AMG 4×4.
The Gelandewagen has been an iconic vehicle for as long as it’s been around. The simple, functional design delivers nothing short of all expectations. However, when the company created the G63 AMG 6×6, it opened eyes inside and outside the company borders; in fact the whole world stood up and took notice.
While the 6×6 was based on something the Australian army had been busy with, the new 4×4 supposedly builds on the even stronger points of its big brother, inheriting the off-road wheels tyres and the much higher ground clearance – all 455mm of it! Of course, you need a heart to match, and frankly, there was nothing wrong with the old motor. So, the 5.5-litre AMG BiTurbo V8 fits snugly in the bonnet with all of its 544 PS and 760 Nm of torque, with the AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system with multiple drive modes making things easier off the road and in no man’s land. Road? Sure, that too.
The G63 4×4 will raise the benchmark, literally, and still remains the most potent luxury vehicle which offers rather hardcore off-road ability. There could be a G350 D and, of course, the G65 BiTurbo V12 with its 1,000 Nm of torque, in the future as well, but for now, the G63 is it. The price? The AMG G63 is the only G-Class on sale in India and costs Rs 2.5 crore at the moment. The new car will add a bit to that.
