Just launched in India, the i8 is probably BMW’s most visually fascinating car on sale. Combining a three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and three electric motors results in 362 PS and 570 Nm — more than enough for this 1.5-tonne hybrid luxury sports car to deliver performance as breathtaking as its looks. However, its connectivity and real-world practicality in today’s day and age are what truly astonish.

The 2 Series is an exciting little car, and, though it spawned the Active Tourer and Gran Tourer, it also gave us this — the Convertible version of the M-tuned little sports car. With a 326-PS 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo straight-six sending the power to the rear wheels, this 1.6-tonne drop-top packs all the excitement of the old 1M but with a contemporary new topless appeal to go with it.

Take an engine which already performs effortlessly and give it three turbos and you have a straight-six which makes V8s start sweating bullets. With 381 PS and 740 Nm, the tri-turbo diesel six lends the big xDrive X5 not just spirited performance but also significantly lower emissions and better fuel economy. It’s been around for a while, but the question remains: will it come to India? We hope it does.
