After a short kip in Chennai, it was exploration time again, and being in Chennai meant we had to check out her famed Kapaleeshwarar Temple. This seventh-century temple complex is a treasure trove of Dravidian culture and absolutely splendid (not to mention crazy crowded). Next it was more off-road fun as we literally drove on to the Marina Beach, where the Fortuner held true to its off-road reputation and allowed us to navigate through the softest sand without getting ‘beached’ even once. Truly, show this car any terrain and it will just go (provided you remember to shift into low gear). Next we checked out the San Thome Basilica – a stunning cathedral that houses the remains of St Thomas. After the Cathedral, we left the delights of Chennai behind and a few taps on the sat-nav later we were off to Bengaluru.
Now, the first thing we noticed upon entering Bengaluru was the crazy volume of traffic there. Luckily, the Fortuner is a lot more nimble than it looks, and allowed us to navigate through. It helped too that those black leather seats are so comfortable and there’s ample leg-room too. And I would have been a lot more frustrated behind the wheel if my rock ‘n’ roll music wasn’t blaring through the music system.
