Our next stop was to go see the Patton tank, a war relic from the Bangladesh liberation, the tank too was liberated – from the clutches of our dear neighbours on the west, and is proudly displayed as a testament to the valour of our jawans. Our final stop on the Kolkata tour took us in the shadow of the Vidyasagar Setu – Prinsep Ghat, a monument built in honour of antiquarian and noted scholar James Prinsep.
The tranquillity of the Hooghly river, the beauty of the pristine white memorial, the peace of the skilfully manicured gardens — all this was mostly lost on me as my heart longed for puchka. The wait was over as soon as we exited the Prinsep Ghat however, because, lo and behold, there was a puchka-seller right outside! After satiating my gastronomic desires, it was off to our next stop, Balasore, Odisha, but before we got there, we found a not-so-little puddle which was too tempting to ignore, so we caused a little bit of a splash before moving on.
